How Illinois got here
Illinois set the age minimum at 18 in 2014 (one of the earliest state actions on kratom — aimed specifically at minors). No statewide ban has ever been seriously considered. Four southern Illinois municipalities — Jerseyville, Alton, Edwardsville, Glen Carbon — all in Madison County, have passed local bans, mostly between 2014 and 2017.
