Kratom rules in Texas

Texas enacted kratom regulations in SB 497, including a prohibition on sales to people younger than 18 and rules for labels, contamination, and alkaloid composition. The original act used Chapter 444; the current codification is Chapter 445. The existence of a store does not confirm that its products comply.

What this source check covers

  • Section 445.004 addresses distribution or sale to people younger than 18. A merchant may apply a stricter policy.
  • Section 445.003 prohibits specified adulteration and contamination, synthetic alkaloids, and 7-OH above 2% of the overall alkaloid composition. That percentage uses the alkaloid fraction, not the total package weight.
  • Chapter 445 is the current codification of the 2023 act. This source check does not certify a product, resolve federal requirements or review every Houston-area ordinance.
